On Saturday September 22, 2008 the Bowfishing 101 Training Team (Dave McCoy, John Jones, Eric Richeson, and Mr. Dan) headed out around 6:00am for Frankford KY. The Passing on the Tradition Support Group had been invited to participate in the National Hunting & Fishing Day being hosted by the KY Department of Fish & Wildlife, Salato Wildlife Education Center. The weatherman had predicted nice weather (Sunny with a high in the upper 80’s). The Support Group booth was set-up and the Major Sponsors Banners where hung. Next was setting up the 3-D Carp shooting platform, and getting all the Major Sponsors bowfishing merchandise set up for display in the booth for people attend the program to look at and examine. (AMS Bowfishing, Cajun Archery, Muzzy Comp. and Mathews Inc.)

The activities kicked of around 10:00am and the Salato Wildlife Education area was teaming with activity. Children from Schools, Churches, and Boy Scout Troops from all across KY had come to be apart of the National Hunting & Fishing Day events. The aroma of wild game being pre-paired over an open fire filled the air (Wild game cook-of competition) and the laughter of children enjoying outdoor games could be herd everywhere. Over the next six hours the 3-D Carp shooting platform was very busy, with children climbing up the steps to take their three shots at the Muzzy 3-D Carp that was moving across in front of the platform at about 5 yards. By 4:00pm. Over 200 boys & girls had experienced the FUN of shooting a Geneses Bow (rigged up for bowfishing) from the Bowfishing Rig Assimilation platform. And almost every one of those 200+ children headed straight to the booth to look at bowfishing equipment on display. All the children received instructions on the proper and safe way to handle the bow while shooting from a platform. The day was a huge success, and the Bowfishing 101 Program helped teach a lot of kid’s about the great sport of bowfishing.

Kristy the Director over the event commented thought the day what a big hit the Bowfishing 101 Seminar was having on the people attending the National Hunting & Fishing Day. And invited us back to set-up again for 2008. Next year, where going to plan on competing in the wild game cook-of completion also (Deep Fried Spoonbill & Buffalo Fish) taken with bow & arrow.
